With a background as a professional dancer, Alison Thomson has a deep understanding of the dedication and commitment required from elite athletes. She’s combined this with post-graduate studies in Business, Counselling and Career Development to build a career as a passionate advocate for student elite athletes.
Alison’s experience as a Career Counsellor and Employment Specialist at both QUT and Bond Universities has seen her support athletes as they gain a tertiary education through flexible learning, while competing and training at an elite level. She also has extensive experience in online career development programs, receiving national recognition from the Australian Learning and Teaching Council and being published in the Australian Journal of Career Development.
“Further education is an essential back-up tool to integrate into or follow on from an athlete’s sporting career,” says Alison.
“It’s hugely rewarding to see the progress as athletes successfully embrace career development and transition into life after sport.”
Alison believes the most valuable thing that athletes gain from the TAA Program is confidence in their career planning.
“The skills they learn on the Program can be successfully implemented into both their journey through their sporting career and their career beyond.”
